9th EbA Knowledge Day

Co-organized by the Friends of EbA Network (IUCN) and the Global Adaptation Network (UNEP), the 9th EbA Knowledge Day will kick-off with a high-level panel to discuss the importance of accelerating ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA) implementation in the context of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Accelerating climate action to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development must be addressed through an integrated approach. Coinciding with the UN 2023 SDG Summit, the 9th EbA Knowledge Day will spotlight Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) and Nature-based Solutions for Adaptation (NbSA) as integrated approaches - combining adaptation, mitigation, and biodiversity co-benefits - crucial for achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Despite their potential, EbA and NbSA are underfunded due to a lack of evidence-based impact measurement and target setting.

The goal of the 9th EbA Knowledge Day is therefore is to connect global climate change efforts with the importance of EbA and NbSA as solutions that cut across various global challenges. The event will feature a high-level panel discussion, followed by interactive discussion tracks, led by the Friends of EbA and the Global Adaptation Network, to explore key questions related to measuring and setting targets for EbA and NbSA through specific global policy mechanisms. The insights generated in these discussions will provide a basis for GAN and the FEBA networks to make collective inputs to the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, COP28 and other policy forums.

The 4 key tracks will focus on:

The Global Stocktake

The Global Goal On Adaptation

Loss & Damage

National Adaptation Plans and NDCs
