The mission report, which was issued on 20 March 2016 by UNESCO’s World Heritage Centre, makes a set of 20 recommendations to strengthen the conservation of the site. The Australian and Tasmanian Governments have responded welcoming the report and accepting all its recommendations.

The mission was jointly carried out with ICOMOS, the International Council on Monuments and Sites. IUCN and ICOMOS are both advisory bodies on natural and cultural World Heritage respectively. Tasmanian Wilderness is listed as a ‘mixed’ World Heritage sites having both natural and cultural values.

Tasmanian Wilderness, as well as over 60 other natural World Heritage sites, will be discussed by the World Heritage Committee during its 40th session in Istanbul, Turkey, taking place from 10 to 20 July 2016.
