Meghna Knowledge Forum 2021 (Virtual Event) PHOTO Story Contest

Capturing the socio-ecological richness and issues in the Meghna River Basin

IUCN invites professional and amateur photographers to participate in Meghna River Basin Photo Competition. The photographs must highlight socio-ecological diversity, community dependence on the rivers, and/or impacts of climate change. Best photographs will be displayed in the Photo Gallery during the Meghna Knowledge Forum from 22 to 24 June 2021. Three best photos will be selected through participants voting and winning photographers will be invited to talk about their photo.    

Note: Meghna River Basin includes 29 transboundary rivers originating from India and flowing into Bangladesh. Some examples are Feni, Khowai, Gumti, Manu, and Muhuri Rivers originating from Tripura; Myntdu (Shari) and Umgot Rivers originating from Meghalaya plateau, and Barak River and its tributaries originating in Assam.   

About the Meghna Knowledge Forum

IUCN Asia is facilitating Meghna Knowledge Forum (MKF) 2021, an online scientific symposium, which aims to provide a learning exchange platform on shared water governance issues in the Meghna Basin linked to Natural Resource Management (NRM) and community inclusion. Guidelines for submitting a photo story

  • Must be related to at least one of the three themes of the MKF 2021, 1) Geophysical and Ecological Diversity of the Meghna Basin; 2) Cultural and Socio-economics of the Meghna Basin; and, 3) Inclusive Basin Governance in the Meghna Basin
  • Each individual can submit max of three photographs linked to one photo story. Photo stories highlighting Gender; Women; Youth; Livelihood; Socio-economics; Culture; Biodiversity and Climate Change issues in the Meghna River Basin are encouraged.  
  • The photographs must be from a location within the Meghna River Basin
  • The photograph must have high-resolution, all photographs should be submitted in JPEG, TIFF and RAW files (minimum of 2 MB and Max 5 MB).
  • Submitted photographs should be raw photos and not digitally enhanced.
  • Photographers grant IUCN the right to print the entries for the event, and reproduce the photos in publications and other marketing material, with appropriate photo credits to the photographer.

  • Relevance – 40%
  • Composition – 20%
  • Creativity – 20%
  • Technical excellence – 20%

Prizes

All the photos received by IUCN will be screened to select the 25 best photo stories. These will be showcased during the Meghna Knowledge Forum, and the three best photos will be select through voting by forum participants. The winning photographs will be used in various publications on the Meghna river basin planned by IUCN and partners. The photo story will also be printed and displayed on relevant platforms.

Photos will be accessible to Forum participants for viewing and voting from 1 June 2021. The three winning photographers will be invited to talk about their photos on day three of the Forum.

  • 0124 June 2021 – Top 25 photos available for voting by MKF participants
