FANAMBY

FANAMBY has been established by a group of Malagasy scientists and conservation experts. Through integrating the commitment made by the Government of Madagascar at the 2003 World Parks Congress into its vision, FANAMBY seeks to safeguard unique habitats and the biodiversity of its targeted sites through the establishment of Protected Areas following a dynamic process of dialogue and in line with the national policies. FANAMBY works closely with the Ministries of Environment AND Water and Forests but also with local communities and local authorities in the realization of these new protected areas. It contributes to the definition of new categories (in conformity with the IUCN categories) which are adapted to the specifics of Madagascar’s circumstances.
