IUCN and WCPA is developing a Green List collaboration with the National Parks Directive of the Ministry of Forestry, Fauna and Parks, Québec, Canada, and the Kativik Regional Government of Québec.

This will pioneer the use of the Standard in Canada and help frame locally-applicable measures of success against a globally consistent set of criteria for fair and effective parks. Québec will join other jurisdictions worldwide in developing a Green List programme. Jurisdictions such as France, China, Cote D’Ivoire, Colombia, Kenya and Australia.

The timing of this effort will allow Québec to participate in the 2020 IUCN World Conservation Congress (WCC 2020) and to share lessons and approaches with a global network of francophone parks at a dedicated event at the host venue, in Marseilles, France.

In order to operationalise the programme, IUCN WCPA is seeking experts to commit time and expertise on a voluntary basis to help adapt the global standard and to evaluate protected area candidates: following an independent, credible and assured process.
