Investing in future: Enriching the Exhibition at a Leading Girls’ School in Colombo

To mark the 45th anniversary of Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya in Colombo, a Science and Technology Exhibition was held from 7 to 8 March 2018 at the College premises. The exhibition, which aimed to enhance talents of school children through latest developments in science and technology, was opened for students and teachers of other schools as well.

On invitation by the school, IUCN Sri Lanka operated a booth for both days of the exhibition. The focus of the IUCN’s exhibition booth was to cover the Biodiversity Conservation section that comes under the Advanced Level Biology syllabus. To cater to that need, visuals and a relevant presentation along with biodiversity related Information gathered from many projects implemented by IUCN Sri Lanka were showcased at the exhibition. Visitors to the IUCN exhibition booth were also able to view project and nature related documentaries as well. Staff members from the Biodiversity Unit at IUCN helped visitors by being on-site to answer queries.

IUCN Sri Lanka also provided to each school that visited the booth a pack of IUCNSL publications including copies of educational posters and leaflets. This process also helped IUCN to organize its highly technical material to suit school audiences.
