Mrs. Jihad Jafar, a member of the “Environmental Citizenship Program” that falls under Bahrain Women Association for Human Development, participated in the Regional Workshop for North Africa and West Asia to reduce environmental disasters. The workshop was held in Cairo, Egypt by the Arab Network for Environment and Development (RAED).

Emphasis was placed on raising awareness on a key issue which is “Interdependence”. It was discussed as an approach involving processes and procedures for integrating international disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation and sustainable development frameworks to increase efficiency and effectiveness. In addition to highlighting the important role that the civil society organizations have in building that level of interdependence.

The workshop discussed several topics, the most important of which are mobilizing local resources and looking forward to a new strategy for disaster risk reduction under the “Stronger Together” title, to encourage cooperation and consultation among members of civil societies. Discussions about achievement and future plans of RAED were also discussed for the period of 2019-2020.

It is worth mentioning that all the Civil Society representatives participating in this workshop joined in the Regional Advisory Groups (RAG).
