The overall project goal is to increase the productivity and resilience of the dryland forest landscape system in Narok and Kajiado counties. The theory of concept including the change is that SFM will be achieved if:
1) Natural resource governance at a landscape scale is improved;
2) Economic benefits from value-chains are sustainable;
3) New technologies and approaches for SFM are adopted, and
4) Natural resource institutions are coordinated.
By the end of the project, 1.5 million hectares will be under sustainable Land Management (SLM), benefiting directly 25,000 households.

The project will achieve the following:
1: Improve governance and management capacity of sustainable land management with a focus on planning and governance frameworks; and building local organizational capacity to implement land management plans;
2: Implement sustainable land management and restoration plans focusing mainly on restoration opportunity investment packages; participatory rangeland rehabilitation; fodder conservation; and strengthening community managed disaster risk reduction; 3: Design and implement sustainable livelihoods incentives and food production systems. The focus will be building capacity to enter into profitable business agreements; developing key primary market infrastructure ; creating viable nature based tourism; implement innovative green business; develop an impact investment fund to provide concessional finance/risk capital;
4: Knowledge management and coordination focusing on multi-stakeholder platform; national livestock marketing information systems, forest data base and wildlife integration with the regional-level management system .
