Matthew has worked at ZSL since 2008 and oversees the running and development of a number of ZSL’s aquatic conservation projects. These include research within the BIOT Marine Reserve, the EDGE Sharks project and leading on the programme of work relating to the conservation of anguillid eels. Matthew has been working in the field of fish biology and conservation for over 15 years. He gained his doctorate studying the effects of an invasive parasite on European eels, and continues to work at the forefront of the conservation of this species and anguillids more generally, including chairing the IUCN Anguillid Eel Specialist Group. He has experience of a range of remote tagging techniques, and is interested in how they can be used to understand the behaviour of aquatic animals for developing appropriate conservation strategies.
