There are at least 39 endangered and vulnerable species and 55 potentially vulnerable species in Australia, of which 2 are monotremes, that need some form of conservation action. The IUCN SSC New World Marsupials Specialist Group (NWMSG) exists to increase our knowledge on the taxonomy and ecology of American marsupials, ensure that conservation status and species accounts have been correctly assessed based on IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria, and that these assessments have been correctly submitted to The IUCN Red List.

I work with Neotropical mammals, especially the small mammals, including the marsupials, rodents, and bats and I am most concerned about their systematics, biogeography and conservation. I have been studying and publishing data on these issues, working mostly with field work and specimens housed at scientific collections.
