Dams are known to be a major driver of the freshwater biodiversity crisis and freshwater ecosystem degradation, but also generate benefits to people. As such, dams are highly relevant to an ongoing discussion weighing the impact of dams on biodiversity and communities, against the benefits associated with them, especially as dams are currently considered to play an important role in reaching global climate and sustainable development goals.  The Task Force can bring together experts from different fields to make recommendations for good practice on dam management and development, and to find solutions to address the impacts of dams on biodiversity.
