ADAPT addresses the emerging environmental and societal challenges across the Western Balkans. Placing Nature-based Solutions at the centre of disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation (CCA), the project will apply innovative solutions to increase community resilience, reduce environmental degradation and strengthen social and gender equality to adapt to long-term changes.

1. Enhance knowledge and awareness of nature-based disaster risk reduction solutions among decision makers, natural resource managers and local communities with a specific focus on gender; this includes strengthening the knowledge base on the state of ecosystems and community vulnerability in the Western Balkans in the face of climate change.
2. Integration of Nature-based Solutions and equitable climate-smart planning into adaptation and disaster reduction policy; this will entail supporting planning processes at various levels for the recognition of ecosystem-based approaches as opportunities that help governments meet multiple goals related to climate change.
3. Implementation of Nature-based Solutions for disaster risk reduction and their scale-up, including demonstration of the value of ecosystem-based approaches in reducing vulnerability by piloting Nature-based Solutions in selected landscapes in the Western Balkans.
