STELARR aims to harness private sector finance for rangeland restoration through sustainable livestock value chains. The project will work with private sector value chain actors generating products from rangelands e.g. cashmere, vicuña and mohair, to channel a portion of their profits towards the restoration of rangelands on which their products depend. Private sector investment incentives will be developed including standards to reward producers and processors for sustainable products and restoration activities, with supporting monitoring systems. A global rangelands data platform will be established as the ‘gateway to all things rangeland’. The project directly contributes to the Global Biodiversity Framework, Land Degradation Neutrality, the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, and the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists 2026.
