Over the course of five years, “Together for the Environment Project (TEP)” will undertake a critical review of the nature protection system in Serbia with particular emphasis on good governance and protected area management. Based on the findings, together with the partners IUCN will establish a comprehensive nature management programme to stimulate transformative change across the protected area management system in Serbia, in line with the highest global conservation standards and best practices, such as the IUCN WCPA Best Practice Protected Areas Guidelines.
The partners will stimulate private sector participation in natural resource management and biodiversity protection by mobilising local communities, the business sector and government agencies to build effective partnerships.
Belgrade Open School is leading the project implementation in partnership with IUCN, Young Researchers of Serbia (YRS), the EcoNomic Expert Community Association (ENECA), the Nature Conservancy (TNC) and the American Chamber of Commerce in Serbia (AmCham).

The project will: (1) help raise the capacity of protected area managers, in accordance with their needs, with special reference to good management of protected areas; (2) develop sustainable biodiversity financing mechanisms with a focus on the involvement of the private sector; and (3) support citizens in their demands for a healthy environment, protection of biodiversity and clean air. We aim to support and innovate transparent and participative decision making, and empower citizens and civil society to advocate for clean environment and accountable public authorities.
