IUCN Congress 2025: Key takeaways for Europe
The IUCN World Conservation Congress in Abu Dhabi, 9-15 October 2025, was a landmark moment for nature. Over 10,000 participants from 189 countries came together across more than 1,000 events and exhibits, sharing transformative ideas, bold commitments and scientific breakthroughs that will shape conservation for decades to come. IUCN Members also voted to adopt a new 20-year Strategic Vision and four-year Programme, setting the Union’s course through to 2030.
This report examines the Congress outcomes through a European lens. It analyses key IUCN resolutions aligned with the EU policy agenda and global conservation priorities, and identifies how IUCN's scientific tools and standards can best support Europe's nature conservation goals and strengthen implementation of environmental laws.
