Restoring Forest Landscapes in the Western Balkans: Introducing the WB6 FLR Plan

The Western Balkans Six (WB6) Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) Plan presents a unified regional approach to restoring degraded forest landscapes and enhancing climate resilient across the region.

Developed under the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans (GAWB), Pillar 5: Protection of Nature and Biodiversity, the plan sets out a collaborative framework for the WB6 to advance forest landscape restoration (FLR) and support long‑term environmental sustainability. A central element of the planning process is the Restoration Opportunities Assessment Report (ROAR), which examines forest landscape conditions, biodiversity vulnerability, forest cover change, and disaster‑prone areas.

The video highlights the development of the WB6 Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) Plan and presents the contribution of the Thematic Group on Ecosystem Restoration (TG ER). The TG ER brings together independent experts who contribute to the development of the regional FLR Plan. It operates under the Biodiversity Task Force of the Western Balkans (BDTF WB), established by the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) and coordinated by the IUCN Regional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia (IUCN ECARO).
