The Councillor of Social Affairs and Sports, Fina Santiago, the Councillor of Environment and Territory, Miquel Mir, as well as the Director of the IUCN Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation, Maher Mahjoub, inaugurated the visit by recalling the importance of cooperation between the countries of the northern and southern shores of the Mediterranean, to address the common challenges of the region such as the biodiversity loss, plastic pollution and climate change.

For 4 days the Tunisian delegation was able to discover the environmental management programs in the Balearic Islands, in particular through the visit of the Cabrera National Park and the Albufera Ramsar site, and a meeting with the Cabrera fishing group.

This exchange was organized within the framework of the existing cooperation between the General Directorate of Cooperation of the Balearic Islands and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Since 2021, the Government of the Balearic Islands has been funding the TransCap programme, supporting civil society projects and coordinated by IUCN in Morocco and Tunisia. After two phases supporting 12 organizations, the program is starting a new funding phase until 2025, which will see the publication of a call for projects next August.
