CORE-RESTORE Project Holds 2nd Steering Committee Meeting in Inhambane
Inhambane, 24 September 2025, the city of Inhambane hosted the 2nd Steering Committee Meeting of the CORE-RESTORE Project, bringing together key stakeholders, technical experts, and institutional partners to review progress and align strategic priorities for the next phase of implementation. The meeting was officially opened by the Provincial Director of Agriculture and Fisheries (DPAP), who welcomed participants and emphasized the importance of the project in promoting coastal resilience and sustainable marine resource management.
Manuel Daniel, representing IUCN, facilitated the approval of the meeting agenda and presented reports from both the Steering and Technical Committees. He also provided an update on the status of recommendations from the previous Steering Committee meeting.
A strategic overview was delivered by Tara Pelembe (IUCN), highlighting opportunities for synergy and collaboration within the broader environmental and development context. The project progress report was jointly presented by Tara, Daniel, Steven, Cabral and Olávio, showcasing key achievements and ongoing activities. One recent consultancy was briefly introduced focussing on the development of a Geographic Information System (GIS) Portal, contributing valuable insights to the project’s knowledge base.
DPAP officials highlighted major project milestones and impacts, followed by an open discussion session led by the DPAP Provincial Director, allowing for clarifications and feedback from participants. The meeting concluded with a review of next steps, jointly presented by IUCN and the Irish Embassy, and final remarks from the DPAP Provincial Director. A group photo and a light refreshment marked the end of the day’s proceedings.
This gathering reaffirmed the collective commitment to ecological restoration and sustainable coastal development, which are central pillars of the CORE-RESTORE initiative.
