I am so sad to hear of the passing of Gren Lucas, one of the greatest pioneers of plant conservation and the Chair of the IUCN Species Survival Commission from 1981 to 1989, successor to Sir Peter Scott. I had the great honor of serving on the Steering Committee of SSC during Gren's tenure. I always admired his total commitment, his strong will, and his ability to provide great leadership in recognizing the importance of plant conservation alongside animal conservation.
