Kathy was a household name in conservation and a key architect of the contemporary conservation paradigm. Though I did not know her on a personal level, I have always been connected through her works and being in the same meetings with her, more recently at the inaugural IUCN APAC in Kigali, Rwanda and CBD COP15 in Montreal, among many others.
