Geoffrey was a very special friend to me. We met only a number of times through GISP and CDB meetings, and once in Brazil when we invited him to an invasive species meeting. Since his illness it was difficult to maintain contact. I wished him well ever since, remember him often, and have missed our message exchange - and always will. He was an inspiring person, with great humour and a huge heart.
