CBD Rome meeting 2026
From 16-19 February, IUCN will join Parties to the CBD in Rome, where the sixth meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Implementation to the Convention on Biological Diversity (SBI-6) will take place.
As part of the intersessional work and in preparation for the next Conference of the Parties (COP17), at SBI-6 Parties will start negotiations on crucial aspects related to the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF), such as resource mobilisation and the financial mechanism, capacity building, implementation of the Gender Plan of Action, and cooperation and synergies with other conventions and organizations others.
Delegates will also consider an update on national biodiversity strategies and action plans, national targets and national reporting for the implementation of the KMGBF which is an important input to the global review of collective progress in the implementation of the KMGBF taking place this year.
IUCN will place particular emphasis on the global review of progress, ensuring that targets, means of implementation, and cross-cutting issues are adequately reflected to support evidence-based decision-making and corrective action.
IUCN encourages Parties to make swift, concrete and sensible recommendations to have a global review process that delivers tangible and actionable outcomes. IUCN provides its views and specific recommendations for selected agenda item in its position paper below.
