Nasebullah Khan informed the participants about the objectives of the meeting, which were to discuss what an IDDV was, and what was the need to develop one for Quetta. He also informed them about the process of setting priorities, identifying issues and seeking solutions through opinion-sharing by all the stakeholders.

Zabardast Khan Bangash, Manager IUCN Balochistan Programme, gave a briefing on IUCN vision, the Balochistan Programme for Sustainable Development project and its major outcomes. He also explained the IDDV and its development process. 

IUCN resource person, Abdul Latif Rao explained the preliminary steps for IDDV development process in his detailed presentation. He highlighted various important reason for the degradation of environment. , including population pressures and un-planned growth, weak planning and infrastructure development, inappropriate watershed management, depletion of ground water and water bodies which plagues not only Quetta but entire Balochistan. He also listed shifting of migrants, deforestation, rangeland management and governance of policies and legislative laws.

An interactive question answer session was followed by a brain storming session in which recommendations and suggestions of the participants from all the sectors were recorded.
