IUCN holds one day workshop on ESD titled “ADDRESSING CLIMATE CHANGE – ISSUES AND OPTIONS” at Girls Guide Association, Quetta Balochistan

A one day ESD workshop on “Climate Change Issues and options” was held on 6th July 2011 at Girls Guide Association Parda Club Quetta. The work shop was organized by IUCN Pakistan under its ongoing Balochistan Partnerships for Sustainable Development Programme (BPSD) in collaboration with Balochistan Girls Guide Association. About (15) fifteen lecturers from different colleges of Quetta participated in the program.

Ms.Shakeela Naveed, Communication and ESD officer BPSD made a presentation on IUCN and BPSD intervention at District level also shared the main objectives of holding the workshop.

She defined the Climate change, its underlying causes and the impacts on our planet.She further informed that with the force of global warming already being felt all over the world like erratic weather - too forceful and frequent typhoons, very hot weather conditions, and changing, short weather patterns - all clear manifestations of this disturbing phenomena.

The 2nd part of presentation “Options “was delivered by Ms. Abida Munir Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation officer BPSD She told that the greenhouse effects, alternative sources of energy, and the various programs to all sectors of the society and to the public is primal in achieving “positive climate change results.

She also shared some of the alternate options to the fossil fuels like wind and solar energy  combined with consistent climate and energy policy support, renewable energy sources can contribute substantially to human well-being by sustainable use of resources and stabilizing the climate. She also elaborated that the human race needs to change our way of thinking ultimately leading to the change in life style.

Session was concluded with vote of thanks by Lead Trainer Ms.Tahira Ahmed Girls Guide Association Islamabad.
