The group started with a visit of INSEE Ecocycle, a subsidiary of SCCC. INSEE Ecocycle focuses on management and treatment of solid, liquid and sludge wastes to be disposed of in cement kilns and other combustion processes. "We strongly believe in material recovery and have been one of the first companies pioneering the use of Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) in Thailand. We use RDFs as fuel and raw materials in our cement kilns thereby, reducing the amount of conventional fossil fuel needed in our operations. This initiative also results to lesser amount of waste going to landfills,'' said Dr Vincent Aloysius, Chief Executive Officer, INSEE Ecocycle. 

Under its Green Heart campaign 2011-2020, SCCC has developed a Sustainable Development Roadmap with six main categories ranging from CO2 emission reduction, water conservation, waste management as well as community and stakeholder engagements with green activities and eco-friendly product innovation. B-DNA members had the opportunity to visit the Green Park and Green Village, which are model SCCC projects aiming to achieve ‘’shared value among society, environment, and business’’.

"SCCC’s Ming Mongkol Green Park has been developed using eco-friendly materials such as Conwood- a wood replacement product, which was produced from fiber cement. The park has been conceptualized to offer knowledge to everyone about sustainable architecture, water conservation, use of alternative energy sources such as solar and wind as well as local fauna and flora. It was with great pleasure that we discussed our concept with other B-DNA members,’’ said Mr Yongyut Sangangam, Head of Corporate Reputation, SCCC.

As part of the field visit, B-DNA members also headed to the waste bank project of Moo 1 community under the Green Village Project, where members learned about the waste management practices that the community has adopted including the sorting and collection of recyclable materials. Income generated through the sales of these recyclables contributes to a community fund.

Mr Songkran Onkamleaung, Quarry Department Manager, SCCC, also presented SCCC’s initiative to enhance biodiversity management of quarry sites as part of the company’s quarry rehabilitation programmes.

The SCCC site visit is part of an informal knowledge exchange activity among BDNA members emanating from the first get-together event last October 2019. This activity aims for them to learn about the members’ conservation work, as well as explore and discuss potential collaboration in implementing conservation projects between and among members.
