IUCN World Heritage Outlook

The IUCN World Heritage Outlook is the first global assessment of natural World Heritage, and our flagship for assessing all natural World Heritage sites. With four sets of data over a six-year period now available, it provides an opportunity to identify evolving trends in the global status of natural World Heritage.

The IUCN World Heritage Outlook is composed of a website and a three-yearly global report. Launched in 2014, with updates in 2017, 2020 and now in 2025, it assesses all natural World Heritage sites together at a given point in time and thus complements the monitoring mechanisms under the World Heritage Convention. Hundreds of assessors and reviewers from IUCN's wide network of experts have contributed to developing comprehensive site assessments.

The IUCN World Heritage Outlook 4 was officially launched at the IUCN World Conservation Congress 2025 in Abu Dhabi.
