IUCN statement on the situation in Israel and Gaza

IUCN is gravely concerned by the tragic loss of lives in Israel and Gaza, and deplores the intensification of violence leading to the rapid rise in civilian casualties.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who are affected, including IUCN’s Member organisations and Commission experts.

IUCN calls on all parties to respect international law and protect civilians by providing immediate access to life-sustaining services.

As with many ongoing conflicts and humanitarian crises around the world, this horrendous situation will carry profound repercussions for the lives and livelihoods of affected communities, as well as their environments.

IUCN condemns all acts of violence and stands in solidarity with all children, women and men affected by conflict everywhere. We call on the international community to urgently engage in addressing the root causes and long-term effects of wars and conflicts, and reiterate our unrelenting commitment to working together for a just world that values and conserves lives, livelihoods and nature.
