IUCN and the SSC provide introductory to specialized knowledge products, courses and training opportunities for capacity building. SSC members, partners and other conservation stakeholders can increase their understanding of tools and knowledge to support conservation actions, empower local communities, advise  governments, and engage civil society and businesses.

Online IUCN Red List Training Course

This course provides an introduction to the IUCN Red List and outlines the basic rules for applying the IUCN Red List Criteria for global and sub-global Red List assessments. This course is suitable for people with or without previous Red List experience.

Key Biodiversity Area Training Course

The KBA Partnership has developed the first online Key Biodiversity Area Training Course — Identifying and delineating Key Biodiversity Areas — in an effort to improve the availability of Key Biodiversity Area training around the world. This self-guided, technical course is aimed at building relevant knowledge and skills among KBA practitioners and experts who will be involved in KBA identification and training.

Conservation Planning Training & Mentorship Program

SSC Conservation Planning Specialist Group runs online training in facilitating species conservation planning workshops, and more specific planning tools-related courses. They also run a mentorship program to further build planning experiences.

IUCN Red List of Ecosystems

The Global Standard for Assessing Risks to Ecosystems course introduces the IUCN Red List of Ecosystems and its successful use and policy impact through real-world case studies. The course was created for practitioners who need to understand the Red List of Ecosystems processes and decision-makers who will value the scientific basis and global authority of Red List of Ecosystems assessments.
