Special Session for Youth Climate Conclave (YCC) 2022
CEESP News: Livleen K. Kahlon. Youth Climate Conclave (YCC) is a prestigious The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) initiative launched by the Delegation of the European Union to India with support from GIZ, and CEEW. Initiated in 2019, this programme has channelized youth opinion from across India to understand and address the issue of climate change. Supported by the Strategic Partnership for Implementation of the Paris Agreement (SPIPA) under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MOEFCC), YCC comprises of competitions (photography, blogging, and short video) for an action-oriented youth engagement, followed by capacity building through a training interface. Implemented from 2019-2022, a few salient features include a Youth Declaration on Climate Action and a Youth Pledge. YCC is organized in two age categories: 10-18 years and 19-25 years.
Major achievements of YCC

Trained 1310 students on key thematic issues related with Climate Change- Renewable Energy, Agriculture, Water, Energy, Waste, Sustainable lifestyles, Resource Efficiency, and Biodiversity

Mobilized direct participation from 4809 Indian youth in YCC and linked competitions

Involved 47 global experts to share their understanding about Climate Change with youth

Provided opportunities to enhance competencies of 47 youth members as interviewers, speakers, and debaters to raise their concern about climate change related issues

Screened 12 winning short videos during YCC

Showcased eco-club activities from 8 state nodal agencies involved with MOEFCC
Under the third edition of Youth Climate Conclave a series of activities were held from 10-11 February 2022 ahead of TERI’s flagship event, World Sustainable Development Summit.The inaugural session was graced by senior dignitaries: Mr Neelesh Kumar Sah, Joint Secretary, Climate Change, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India; HE Mr Vincenzo de Luca, Ambassador of Italy to India; HE Mr Ugo Astuto, Ambassador of the European Union to India and Dr Vibha Dhawan, Director General, TERI.
The two-day program included presentations on science of climate change, ‘net zero’ targets’, ‘India acts’ session, and ‘Sustainable lifestyles’. Other features included presentations by Eco-clubs, youth debates, screening of video messages from business leaders and climate experts. A Youth Pledge was drafted and presented on day two highlighting a need for an active role of younger generations to find solutions to address climate change. Virtual felicitation of winners of online competitions that received more than 1100 entries and 1900 registrations marked the culmination of Youth Climate Conclave 2022. The youth pledge was also presented on 18th February 2022 at the Youth Plenary of WSDS 2022.
