IUCN Director General’s statement on the US announcement in regard to the Paris Agreement
The International Union for Conservation of Nature, IUCN, deeply regrets the White House’s announcement that it will withdraw the United States government from the 2015 Paris Agreement on climate change.
At the IUCN World Conservation Congress held in Hawaiʻi in September 2016, IUCN Members unanimously adopted Resolution 56, welcoming the Paris Agreement, and called on all IUCN Members, including State Members, to strengthen their efforts in its implementation.

Inger Andersen quote on Paris Agreement
The Paris Agreement, in our view, is a historic treaty and represents the world’s best hope in tackling the challenge of climate change.
The impetus created by the Agreement is unstoppable. We encourage all our Members to maintain their determination in pursuing its goals. IUCN remains fully committed to the ambitious implementation of the Paris Agreement, and will continue supporting its Members in this regard.
