Island Conservation Society

Founded in 2001, Island Conservation Society promotes the conservation and restoration of island ecosystems and the sustainable development of islands. It owns and manages Aride Island Nature Reserve and has six conservation centres in eychelles from where it conducts monitoring, wardening, ecotourism and educational activities, as well as scientific expeditions to remote islands and atolls. ICS has been involved in many restoration projects including island eradications of invasive alien mammals and birds, and reintroductions or conservation introductions of rare and threatened species. ICS focuses its work on small islands of Seychelles, particularly Aride and remote outer islands, as well as Silhouette (the third largest granitic island almost entirely covered by a National Park). Through an agreement with the Government of Seychelles and the parastatal Islands Development Company, ICS is involved in the conservation and restoration of many outer islands of Seychelles. ICS has pursued partnerships to ensure sustainable development of these islands based on ecotourism, and it coordinates a number of island foundations that group governmental, private, communities and NGO stakeholders that are present in these islands.
