Marine Conservation Biology Institute
Marine Conservation Biology Institute (dba Marine Conservation Institute) is a nonprofit organized exclusively for educational, scientific and charitable purposes. As a leader in the global movement to protect and recover the integrity of vast ocean areas, Marine Conservation Institute uses the latest science to identify important marine ecosystems around the world and then advocates for their protection. We work with scientists, politicians, government officials and other organizations to identify key threats to areas in the sea and then build workable solutions. Our unique effectiveness comes from our vision, expertise and willingness to partner with others. Since starting as the vision of one person in 1996, Marine Conservation Institute has become a major catalyst in the effort to save our planet, the most pressing challenge of our time. Our initiatives include Marine Protection Atlas, an online tool to track and evaluate marine protected areas (MPAs), the Blue Parks and Blue Sparks Programs where MPAs around the world are recognized and awarded for their management of critical marine ecosystems, and efforts to secure protections for areas beyond national jurisdiction
