Coalition of Legal Toothfish Operators, Inc.

The Coalition of Legal Toothfish Operators was founded in 2003 by industry members to eliminate Illegal, Unregulated and Unreported fishing of Toothfish, and to ensure the long term sustainability of Toothfish resources, and the rich and critical biodiversity of the southern oceans. While that illegal fishing has virtually been eliminated, we remain vigilant against its potential return. Also key to our early goals were protected seabird species from interactions with longline fishing gear, and our members are very proud to have been involved with the development of integrated weighted line which has seen seabird bycatch in toothfish fisheries reach near zero levels. Today we largely facilitate collaboration between industry, NGOs, science and management to ensure our fisheries are sustainable and well managed and follow or create best practice. Our Members consist of over 50 entities globally that are involved in the toothfish industry.
