There are many criteria about the number of species of the flora of Cuba; however, most authors estimate between 7000 and 7500 plant species. These estimates include both native and exotic species present in Cuba. We envision a significant advance in plant conservation in the country.
Objectives
The conservation status of at least 80% of the Cuban flora will be appropriately documented. A network of plant conservationists with the support of the local communities will be conducting actions to reduce the extinction risk of native plant species and recover their populations across the country.
The group managed ten conservation initiatives linked to the recovery of 17 species and their habitats.
To inform conservation efforts, CPSG assesses species for the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
