City of Cape Town
The City of Cape Town, South Africa, is the legislative capital city of South Africa, and the provincial capital of the Western Cape Province. With an area of 245 189 ha (boundary has recently been amended) and a population of 4.68 M inhabitants, Cape Town is one of eight metropolitan areas in South Africa. It is the second largest economic centre, and the second most populous city after Johannesburg. In terms of the South Africa Constitutional Schedules 4 & 5 and the Local Government: Municipal Structures Act, 117 of 1998, the City of Cape Town is responsible for matters within its constitutional and legal mandate associated with a metropolitan municipality.
