Antigua Guatemala is a municipality with a relatively high human development index (0.779), compared to other municipalities in the country (SEGEPLAN, 2024). The municipal government, with political autonomy, is responsible for administering a territory of approximately 78 square kilometres and a population of approximately 55,000 inhabitants. The municipality is the country's top tourist destination, with a lively city of Baroque influence dating back to the 16th century and declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO (1979). With a volcanic natural and landscape heritage, the municipality has the conditions required for pursuing the human and sustainable development of its people.
