Aims to reduce threats to natural ecosystems and the native species they contain by increasing awareness of invasive alien species, and of ways to prevent, control or eradicate them.

Chair

Piero Genovesi, PhD, Head of wildlife service with the Italian Institute for Environmental Protection and Research, Chair of the IUCN SSC Invasive Species Specialist Group and member of the Steering Committee of the IUCN Species Survival Commission, collaborates with many international organizations, including the UN Convention on Biological Diversity and the European Commission. International Science Advisor for the Center for Invasion Biology, Stellenbosch University, South Africa. Author of books and scientific articles published in the most prestigious journals in the world, in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 included in Highly Cited Researchers list by Web of Science.

Specialist Group work

The ISSG promotes and facilitates the exchange of invasive species information and knowledge across the globe and ensures the linkage between knowledge, practice and policy so that decision making is informed. The two core activity areas of the ISSG are policy and technical advice, and information exchange through our online resources and tools and through networking.
