More about the Red List Authority
Although invertebrates make up the majority of marine species, most of them are still unknown. Due to human impacts and environmental changes, marine invertebrates become extinct before they are discovered.
MIRLA was established to coordinate the assessment of marine invertebrates worldwide. The aim is to expand taxonomic efforts, to assess as many species as possible for the IUCN Red List, and to ...
MIRLA's mission is to coordinate and accelerate global invertebrate species description, to assess the newly discovered species for the IUCN Red List and to estimate the risk of extinction. This knowledge can be used as a powerful tool to inform governmental environmental agencies, NGOs, national parks, researchers and the general public about conservation options.
To build capacity for Red List assessment of marine invertebrates, we organized the first hybrid (virtual / in person) training event in April 2023, to support marine invertebrate experts to complete the online Red List assessor training course.
