Botanical Survey of India

Botanical Survey of India (BSI) is the apex research organization in India under the Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change and is mandated for floristic and taxonomic studies on all plant groups (including algae and fungi), and conservation of the wild plant resources of the country through effective ex-situ and in-situ methods. One of the primary mandates of the institute is the red listing of wild plant species as per the IUCN guidelines and propose to the government of India for effective conservation and recovery of threatened species. BSI is also involved in the documentation of the plant based traditional knowledge, molecular and phytochemical profiling of Indian plants.
