COORG Wildlife Society

The Coorg Wildlife Society [CWS] is an NGO that was founded by the late Brig Cariappa in 1980 under the Society’s Act. At present the CWS has about 900 members. The CWS is governed by an Executive Committee with a President, Hon Secretary, and Treasurer and 10 other members. The executive committee is elected every three years. The Society carries out programs on conservation in forest areas and is also involved in protection of the entire Kodagu Landscape outside the forest eco systems. This assumes importance in the context of the entire Kodagu Landscape being the principal catchment of River Cauvery. River Cauvery sustains over 80 million people and six hundred major industries across South India. The Coorg Wildlife Society received the Rajiv Gandhi Parisara award 2005 from the Government of Karnataka.
