Department of Environment and Science

The NPSR manages the conservation, use and enjoyment of particular Queensland Lands and waters on behalf of the community; encourages active lifestyles by providing recreational and sporting opportunities; and regulates the state's racing industry. The department has three service areas working towards this purpose: i) National Parks - manages parks, forests, creation areas, marine parks and fish habitat areas to sustain natural and cultural values, build environmental resilience to ensure healthy species and ecosystems and facilitate ecotourism, recreation and heritage ii) Sport and Recreation - supports and encourages active participation in physical activity iii) Racing - maintains public confidence in, and ensures the integrity of, the Queensland racing industry
