Fundación de Conservación Tierra Austral

Fundación Tierra Austral (FTA) is one of Chile’s most prominent private lands conservation organizations and the country’s leading land trust. FTA plays a critical leadership role in a comprehensive effort to create the enabling conditions necessary to catalyze private lands conservation in Chile. A centerpiece of this work was the 2016 passage in Chile’s Congress of the Derecho Real de Conservación (DRC), an innovative and legally enforceable conservation agreement, conceived and grounded in Civil Law. The DRC is a breakthrough private lands conservation tool in Chile, and has attracted widespread interest as a global model for Civil Law countries.
