Koninklijk Belgisch Instituut voor Natuurwetenschappen

The Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences (RBINS) holds Belgium's Natural History collections, including the records linked to the geological map of the country, and serves as a research centre studying biodiversity and geodiversity, evolution, and the natural environment. It manages the national oceanographic vessel and makes it available to the nation’s scientists. RBINS, which is heavily involved in international agreements on environmental management, works to build capacities in biodiversity for development in countries partners of Belgium, mainly in Africa. It manages a Museum of Natural Sciences that, besides its world famous Iguanodons, works at improving the knowledge of nature among the citizens and engaging them into action to protect it.
