Rainforest Trust

Founded in 1988, Rainforest Trust is a world leader in the protection of tropical ecosystems and biodiversity. Together with local NGOs and communities, we protect and preserve critical habitat, creating protected and conserved areas through legal designation, land purchase, and Indigenous land tenure and titling—saving endangered species and storing carbon in the process. We optimize investment through scientific, objective priority setting, and we minimize risk wherever possible. Our expert conservation staff, based in the U.S. and around the world, develop and oversee partnerships and projects across more than 75 countries—using science-based methods and satellite monitoring to ensure that our projects have the greatest possible impact. We build sustainability into our project design, working with our local NGO partners and communities to develop long-term conservation management plans, support sustainable livelihoods and finance mechanisms, connect our partners with co-funders to support future management activities, and strengthen our partners’ organizational capacity. Through these highly effective, strategic local partnerships, we achieve the results necessary for the long-term protection of tropical ecosystems and the wildlife they hold.
