Sabyinyo Community Livelihood Association

SACOLA is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) based in Rwanda, officially recognized with legal personality no. 051/08.11 as of May 26, 2010. Established in 2004, it was founded by the residents of Kinigi and Nyange sectors—surrounding the Volcanoes National Park. It was formed with the involvement of 63 founding members, representing the interests of over 51,000 people. Context and Need: Volcanoes National Park, renowned for its population of mountain gorillas, is situated in a region with a very high population density—approximately 660 people per square kilometer. This places significant pressure on the park’s resources, leading to encroachment for essential needs.
