Springs Stewardship Institute

SSI was founded in 2013 to advance scientific understanding and stewardship of spring ecosystems. Initially incubated by the Museum of Northern Arizona, SSI became an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in 2020. SSI is the only organization dedicated to protecting the world’s springs, including springfed streams, springs-dependent wildlife, and the aquifers and cultures they support. Since its founding, SSI has become widely recognized as an authority on springs, working closely with indigenous, private, nonprofit, state and federal agencies.
