Stiftelsen Nordens Ark
The Nordens Ark iFoundation is a facility for breeding and fostring endangered species. Nordens Ark houses:
- endangered old nordic rare breeds.
- endangered wild nordic mammals,birds, insects and amphibians.
- endangered exotic wild mammals, birds and amphibians.
- endangered tropical amphibians and reptiles.
The Nordens Ark Foundation is a non-profit-making foundation and the owner of Åby Manor.
The Åby Manor properties comprise a total of 383 hectars. 60 of the 383 hectars have been adapted for visitors use.
In the non-public area, Lunden, Nordens Ark has breeding facilities for birds and amphibians, a quarantine station for predators and birds, and an isolation section for hoofed animals. Most of the breeding-operations are carried out in this section.
The Nordens Ark Foundation is open to visitors every day all year around. The park has about 100.000 visitors a year.
Courses are held att all levels of compuslsory school and upper secondary school. A long-term cooperartion has been built upp with Göteborgs University and the Swedish Univesrsity of Agricultural sience, where Nordens Ark functions as a field station for students, researchers, and post-graduate students.
