Unselective, Unsustainable, and Unmonitored Fisheries

Developing a Situation Analysis with Case Studies from Southeast and East Asian trawl fisheries

At the IUCN World Conservation Congress in Hawai‘i, USA, in September 2016, IUCN Members adopted resolution WCC-2016-Res-021Monitoring and management of unselective, unsustainable and unmonitored (UUU) fisheries, which called for the IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC) to analyse and report on this topic.

With generous support from four philanthropic foundations, a situation analysis has been drafted to deliver this analysis and reporting. This is now ready for open peer review according to the following timeline:

Timeline:

  • Fall 2022: Call for Evidence and Advance Notice of Upcoming Open Review Period
  • May 25 – July 21, 2023: Open Peer Review Period for Draft Situation Analysis.
  • July 21 – December 31, 2023: Revisions, response to review and IUCN Editorial Board Approval
  • January 2024: Launch and dissemination

The Open Peer Review has now ended.
