Building a guide on inclusive, equitable and effective implementation of biodiversity Target 3

CEESP News: T3 guide project team, WPCA.

Implementation of GBF draft target 3 (the ‘30 by 30’ target) will have important implications for human rights in conservation. WCPA is coordinating a multi-partner process to identify approaches for inclusive, equitable and effective implementation and summarize results in a technical guide. The Convention on Biological Diversity’s Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) is expected to be adopted by countries across the world in December 2022. Implementation of the GBF will have important implications for human rights in conservation for the coming decade and beyond. This includes human rights in relation to implementation of its draft Target 3, to conserve 30% of the planet by 2030.

IUCN’s World Commission on Protected Areas is coordinating a multi-partner process to identify a toolbox of approaches for inclusive, equitable and effective implementation of Target 3, with the aim to summarize the results in a “how-to” technical guide. Your participation is welcome! Please read the project announcement and visit the project website to learn more.

Opportunities to engage are posted on the website and include open consultations (one upcoming 20 December at 12:00 or 23:00 UTC) and an open survey. You can also complete this ‘opt in’ form to receive periodic updates.)
