With a broad mandate, the Agency undertakes critical responsibilities such as conducting environmental impact assessments for projects, strategic environmental assessments, and overseeing procedures to address environmental damage and liability. The Agency also issues permits for key activities, including waste management, radiation and chemical protection, and ozone layer protection.

By joining IUCN, the Agency is strengthening its connection with the global conservation community. “We expect that IUCN membership will provide us with access to cutting-edge scientific expertise, best practices, and vital resources. These tools will be instrumental in tackling Montenegro’s unique environmental challenges, from biodiversity preservation to climate change adaptation,” says Bojana Obradović, Senior adviser at the Environmental Protection Agency of Montenegro. “By leveraging IUCN’s extensive network, the Agency aims to amplify its impact on conservation, enhance capacity-building initiatives, and contribute to global environmental goals”.

Guided by a vision of harmony between people and nature, the Environmental Protection Agency of Montenegro focuses on critical priorities, including monitoring environmental aspects to preserve biodiversity, pollution prevention, climate change adaptation, and environmental education. These efforts underscore its commitment to fostering sustainable development while safeguarding the country’s natural treasures.
